<span style="font-weight: normal;">I am a new lecturer appointed on the 02 January 2015. Currently I am lecturing third year and honours students and registered for PhD in Industrial Relations. I am planning to complete my PhD in three years and do publications. PhD is a minimum requirement for a lecturer.&nbsp;</span></h4>

Bio

Evelyn Derera is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Management and Entrepreneurship in the School of Management, IT and Governance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg Campus. She is also currently serving as a Programme Manager for the Postgraduate Diploma in Management for the Self-Funded Teaching Programmes at Pietermaritzburg Campus. Apart from lecturing, Evelyn previously served as an Academic Development Officer where she focused on improving undergraduate throughput ratio at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Evelyn has a Ph.D in Entrepreneurship from at the University of KwaZulu Natal. Her thesis focused on women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. Her other qualifications include a Master of Commerce (Entrepreneurship), Bachelor of Commerce Honours -Summa Cum Laude (Entrepreneurship), and a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management with an Accounting major from the University of South Africa (UNISA). Evelyn also holds a Diploma in Banking from the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe.
Evelyn is passionate about entrepreneurship, in particular the role of women entrepreneurs in developing nations. Her other research interests include social and youth entrepreneurship. Evelyn has published more than twenty research articles in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She is currently teaching Management and Entrepreneurship modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also supervises Honours, Masters and Doctorial students.
Before joining academia, Evelyn worked in the banking sector in Zimbabwe where she held several positions including Customer Relationship Manager in Private Banking. Her financial sector experience spans over ten years.
